There’s something exciting going on in the weaving world: WeaveZine is introducing a new generation of fiber artists to handweaving.

Two years ago, WeaveCast, the first podcast dedicated to handweaving began recording interviews with the world’s best weavers.  Magic happened: their stories inspired lapsed weavers to take up the loom again, and caused many knitters and other non-weavers to give handweaving a try.

Building on that success, we launched WeaveZine, the first online magazine for weavers.  With articles to help new weavers be successful and a flirtatious attitude that speaks to weavers in their twenties and thirties, we’re launching weaving into the twenty-first century.

New Media and Online Advertising

The Internet has spawned new forms of distributing information worldwide.  This includes podcasts, online magazines, and social networking sites. 

The growth of these new media is staggering.  In 2006, the number of podcasts exceeded the number of radio stations in the world[1] .  Subscriptions to new-media feeds grew by 170% in 2007.[2]   Compare this to the historically low growth rates of 1-2% annually for broadcast radio and television[3] and the 1% annual decline in newspaper subscriptions[4] and you’ll understand why new media is such an exciting development. 

By investing your advertising dollars with WeaveZine and WeaveCast, you’ll be leveraging new media to help your business grow into the twenty-first century.

Statistics

I use SiteMeter, an independent third-party application, to track traffic on the WeaveZine web pages. Using SiteMeter, you can view the current WeaveZine traffic statistics.

In its first month of publication, WeaveZine pages were viewed 96,105 times during 10,505 user visits.

Thousands of weaving enthusiasts are enjoying the site.  What’s more, in the first week the average visit length was 12:05 minutes, which means that users are coming to the site and staying to read it cover-to-cover. 

More than 1200 readers have registered with WeaveZine to receive email notifications when new issues of WeaveZine go live.

We’ve created a group “WeaveZine Fans” on ravelry.com, the online social networking site for knitters.  The WeaveZine Ravelry group is an active and fast-growing community in the heart of the online knitting world.

Ad Rates

WeaveZine ad rates are set according to standard online advertising guidelines, based on CPM or dollars per thousand views.  WeaveZine’s CPM is $5.00.  Compare our rates to those of knitty.com, craftzine.com or Handwoven, and you’ll see that advertising in WeaveZine is a great value for your marketing dollar.

Note: Although we use CPM calculations to determine what the rates are, WeaveZine ads are priced and sold by a flat, one-time fee. You pay once, and own that ad real estate in perpetuity.

All the ads in WeaveZine are linked to the advertiser’s website, driving traffic directly to your online store or promotional site. 

In addition, WeaveZine ads are persistent.  This means that old articles are archived with their ads intact.  As WeaveZine readership grows, so will your ad’s exposure.  It’s like buying tomorrow’s ads at today’s rates.

We offer a 10% discount if you pre-purchase three ads of the same type.  (This also locks you into the current pricing.)

Appears on every page of the WeaveZine site, in the left-hand column above the navigation.  Your ad graphic will be displayed with every page view, and will appear on every printed-out article.  This is the most visible way to get your business message in front of the WeaveZine audience.

Rotating Site Ad

Like the premium site ad, this ad appears on every WeaveZine page, but it is more affordable because you share the ad space with other businesses on a rotating basis.

Appears on one of the WeaveZine article pages.  We will work with you to place your ad with the article most relevant to your marketing goals.

WeaveZine accepts payment by Paypal (sent to editor@weavezine.com) or check.

Payment must be received two weeks before the WeaveZine issue is released.  The payment deadlines are as follows:

Graphics Support

Don’t have a digital artist on staff?  We can provide graphics support to help you create a compelling online banner ad for $35/hour.  Typically, it takes about one hour to generate a banner ad from your logo and images.


Measuring Ad Effectiveness

The WeaveZine site now tracks click-traffic on all ads. We send out monthly statistics. No more guessing about whether your ad campaign is working: now you'll know!

If you prefer third-party statistics, many web-hosting companies over services that will let you track referrals to your Web site. Contact your web server host for details.
