miniature tapestry weaving

Hi ...

I have just recently decided that I want to weave small tapestries.  I have done 2 small ones, about 5 x 7 using shetland wool and one about 2 x 9 using Aurora silk.  I am determined to work my way down to tiny... maybe postage stamp size.

However, I haven't been able to find any real discussion anywhere about scale, sett,  what picture would work compressed so small...etc.  I would love to see an article by someone like Mary Deiterich who does wonderful small weavings on small frame looms she has adapted to control tension. There is an article by her in Handwoven....but she just described what she was doing ... no instruction.  I know there are miniature weaving artists out there.  I think one of them should write a book.... or write an article for Weavezine??  Maybe???

Meanwhile I will keep experimenting.

Thanks, Syne, for this wonderful online encyclopedia of weaving and the website is beautiful.

Tapestry Loom

Syne - greetings!

I'm interested in the vertical tapestry loom depicted in the photo accompanying your comments pertaining to the workshop taught by James Koehler. Can you give me some details on this, please?  Is it available for purchase?  Thank you.  Joan Biasucci

Miniature tapestry weaving

You may want to talk to Kathe Todd-Hooker about miniature tapestry. She came to Central Ohio and taught a 3-day workshop for us on the subject and was a fascinating and inspirational teacher. Her work is gorgeous. I think she'd be awesome for a podcast as well.

Thanks for the idea.
