44: Joanne Hall
Produced by Syne Mitchell, 6 November, 2009 - 18:20
Ensemble member Anna Zinsmeister interviews Joanne Hall about swedish looms and draw-loom weaving. And Rose Meacher tells us the story of what the Weaver's Guild of Greater Baltimore is doing to celebrate their 60th anniversary.
Note: Anna was able to take the workshop with Joanne Hall (and thus arrange this interview) with help from others. She received a grant from HGA, the Mearl K. Gable II Memorial Grant, as well as a gift from Russell Groff. She would like to express her thanks.

Tip 'o The Day
|
Copy your treadling sequence, 'laminate' it with packing tape, and tape it to your castle. As you take a break from weaving, stop to answer the phone, or chat with another person, stick a pin through the last treadle you trod, so you don't lose your place. I make it a point to always try to only stop a treadling sequence at the end of it, but life intervenes, and sometimes I have to. So this method insures that I can pick up right where I left off without having to retrace my steps to find out where I am in the sequence. Tip contributed by: maidensweaver |

You can see pictures of drawlooms on my recent blog post about the Weaving II class I took.

draw loom weaving
First, Syne, streaming works just great now! But much more than that -- this podcast is absolutely fantastic! Now I'm just dying to see a real article with photos or maybe even videos! This is one topic that I haven't seen demonstrated or illustrated in books and it is absolutely fascinating -- I'm using my imagination to picture how it all fits together, but I'd just love to see if I'm right.... Also, I kept thinking of your desire to write in your weaving -- are you asking Santa Claus for a draw-loom unit to add to your loom???!!!
